Cyber Police Recovers Rs 11 Lakh in Online Fraud Cases in North Kashmir

SRINAGAR: The Cyber Cell of the Kupwara District Police has successfully recovered ₹11,06,555.82 in connection with several online financial fraud cases reported throughout the district.

According to police, the recovered amount was traced and retrieved through court orders and advanced cyber tracking techniques. The reported complaints involved online job scams, fake investment offers, fraudulent KYC updates, misleading credit SMS alerts, and impersonation-based frauds.

Several victims — including civilians, government employees, and defence personnel — were tricked by fraudsters using deceptive methods to extract money.

Police stated that the Cyber Cell responded swiftly by gathering digital evidence and coordinating with banks and service providers. This prompt action led to the successful recovery of funds in multiple cases.

Police Urge Public to Stay Alert Against Evolving Online Scams

Authorities have advised the public to stay alert and protect themselves from common online scams such as digital arrest frauds, fake trading platforms, bogus credit SMS alerts, unauthorised app installations, fake job offers on Instagram and Telegram, impersonation calls from supposed telecom operators, fraudulent video calls, and suspicious links requesting personal information.

The public has been advised to report suspicious online activities immediately to the National Cyber Crime Helpline at 1930 or file complaints at www.cybercrime.gov.in.
